Activities in the area

In the immediate and somewhat further vicinity there are plenty of sights and activities for young and old, from zoos, museums to amusement parks. So there is always something fun to do, even on a rainy day. Below is an overview of the main activities and sights per place.

Amsterdam

Het Rijksmuseum Amsterdam: is the largest museum of art and history in the Netherlands.
Het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam: manages a large part of the modern art collection of the City of Amsterdam.
Anne Frank Huis: the hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary during the Second World War.
Zaanse Schans: next to historic Amsterdam, in Zaanstad, lies the Zaanse Schans.
Linnaeushof: is the largest playground in Europe in Heemstede (near Amsterdam)

 

Alkmaar

Alkmaar: is known for its weekly Cheese Market on Friday mornings (April to August).

 

Bollenstreek

Keukenhof: a historic park full of blooming tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and other bulbous plants.
Luchtvaartmuseum Aviodrome: the Aviodrome National Museum of Aviation has a large collection of aircraft, helicopters, models and various attributes on display.

 

Delft (accessible by bike, approx. 10 minutes)

Delft canal cruise: a great way to see the historic city of Delft from the water.
Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles / Royal Delft: authentic Delft blue comes from the world-famous and oldest earthenware factory from the 17th century, the Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles/Royal Delft from Delft.
Museum Prinsenhof: This is where William of Orange was murdered. It is located in the former Saint Agatha monastery, which belongs to the Top 100 of the National Monument Conservation Agency from 1990. The museum highlights Delft blue, great Delft scientists and Delft masters, William of Orange and the House of Orange-Nassau. The museum has a collection of paintings, pottery and utensils from the Golden Age.
Old and New Church: The New Church in the city of Delft, in the Dutch province of South Holland, is a church building on the Markt in the center of the city. At 108.75 meters, the tower is the highest church tower in the Netherlands after the Dom Tower in Utrecht. The church is also known for the mausoleum of William of Orange. Underneath the mausoleum is the crypt of Orange-Nassau, the crypt of the Royal Family. The Oude Kerk, also called the Oude Jan or Scheve Jan, is one of the two large old churches in Delft, in the Dutch province of South Holland; the other large old church in Delft is the Nieuwe Kerk. The Oude Kerk dates from 1246 and is the oldest church in Delft. Characteristic of the Oude Kerk is the leaning tower. Here you can find, among other things, the tombs of our naval heroes Maarten Tromp and Piet Hein.
Terraces: In addition to all these historical and cultural sights, there are mainly cozy canals and squares with cozy terraces, cafes and restaurants where it is great to stay.

 

The Hague

Madurodam: the whole of the Netherlands in one city. Everything that the Netherlands is famous for on a scale of 1:25 recreated down to the smallest details.
Gemeentemuseum Den Haag: a broad collection of modern art, fashion, applied arts and music.
Omniversum: a cinema in The Hague where large-screen films are projected on a dome so that people not only watch a film but experience it.
Duinrell: Wassenaar is home to a well-known amusement park with a tropical swimming paradise for the whole family.
Drievliet: in nearby Rijswijk, there is a cozy family attraction park.
Sealife: discover the surprising underwater world at SEA LIFE Scheveningen and meet our fantastic animals: rays, sharks, starfish, piranhas and much more.

 

Gouda

Gouda: when you think of Gouda, you don't only think of cheese, pipes, syrup waffles and pottery, but also of stained glass windows, a fairytale town hall and atmospheric canals.

 

Leiden

Leiden: city of discoveries.
Naturalis: Naturalis presents a museum full of nature.
Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal: has collections of old paintings with masterpieces by Lucas van Leyden, Rembrandt and Jan Steen and unique collections of tin, tiles, silver and glass exhibited in stylish rooms. Contemporary art is regularly featured in temporary exhibitions.
